5 Tips to help your winter skin naturally

Content:

Winter causes a lot of work for our skin. When temperatures fall, the moisture level in our skin also falls. Additional stress is caused by big changes in temperature to which we are exposed at most times during winter; walking to the shops or the morning journey to work; evenings looking at festive lights; and weekends on the ski pistes. Low temperatures and big differences in temperature are the main culprits of symptoms of winter skin.

Among the most common winter skin problems are very dry, rough skin, a feeling of tightness, and scaly and/or itchy skin. If you are prone to dermatitis, you will notice the return of the symptoms of itchy skin and rashes.

We have prepared some useful tips that will help save your skin in winter

1. A winter 'wardrobe' for skin

Like you, your skin also needs protective layers in winter. If this sounds rather unusual, it's time for you to come up with a winter 'wardrobe' for your skin. This should include: cleansing, moisturising, and, if necessary, an extra application of a nourishing ointment. How much and what kind of product to use is dependent on your skin type. If it feels as if after moisturising your skin is still undernourished, you can give it extra protection by applying a thin layer of ointment.

2. Dirt or protection?

Do not use aggressive or overly-strong facial cleansers in winter. At this time of year, your skin needs all the moisture it can retain, and oil on its epidermis helps. Choose a facial cleanser that does not contain skin-unfriendly ingredients such as SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulfate), Parabens, Petroleum Jelly and artificial colours or fragrances. Products that contain alcohol should also be avoided.

3. Skin has a big appetite in winter

Use skincare products that are based on natural plant oils and butters. These are extremely rich in skin beneficial fats such as omega 3, 6, and 9, and gamma-linoleic acid. Avoid mineral oils or lanolins, which do not provide nourishment for the skin. You can provide additional care for your skin by taking an omega 3 supplement which will fortify your skin from the inside.

Did you know that hemp oil contains the perfect ratio of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids? Try 100% natural Soothing CBD Skin Balm with hemp oil which soothes and nourishes winter skin and locks-in as much moisture as possible.

4. Do you love long, hot baths?

In winter, it is better to bid them farewell. Your skin will thank you. Hot water is damaging to the skin for two reasons. The first is that it strips skin of its natural oils, just as the use of hot water is more efficient in cleaning greasy surfaces. The second reason is that by stimulating the microcirculation, more inflammatory building blocks enter the skin which can accelerate the formation of rashes or worsen them.

You should also make sure that the products you use for showering and washing your hair do not contain irritants. Avoid using fabric softener for your laundry, and moisturise, moisturise, moisturise your skin! The optimum time is immediately after showering when your skin is still moist.

5. Not only skin but rooms also need moisture

Although one of the nicest winter 'activities' is lounging around in the warm, we should be aware that heated air in the indoor environment sucks away moisture from our skin. Therefore it is important to replace lost moisture. This is most easily achieved by using an air humidifier.
