Why does rosacea occur and how can you help yourself?

Content:

Rosacea is a relatively common skin condition that manifests itself as redness and the appearance of broken capillaries on the skin of the face. Today, we will briefly describe its main characteristics, causes and, finally, a few different ways in which you can help yourself.

As with any other skin or general well-being problem, a holistic approach is also important in the treatment of rosacea. This means changing not only the cream, but also diet, household habits, possible psychological factors and our daily lifestyle, all of which can have an impact on rosacea outbreaks on the face.

What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that manifests itself as redness on the face - most commonly on the cheeks, nose and forehead. This redness has the characteristic appearance of broken capillaries. At first, flare-ups occur sporadically in the presence of triggers such as temperature changes, flushing (embarrassment), alcohol consumption and others. However, over time, facial redness becomes permanent and is often accompanied by enlarged small veins and skin impurities. In the most severe cases, excess tissue can build up and lead to thickening of the nose. Are you curious about why rosacea outbreaks happen and how you can relieve them? Keep reading!

How common is rosacea?

Rosacea is a relatively common skin disease. It is estimated to affect from 1 to 20% of the population, and is more common in fair-skinned people of Western Europe. It affects women more often than men, with higher incidence in those with thin, sensitive skin that is prone to flushing. Women between the ages of 30 and 50 are most commonly affected.

What causes it?

Rosacea is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. As mentioned earlier, fair-skinned people from more industrialised countries are more susceptible to this inflammatory skin disease. In addition to genetic predisposition, certain environmental factors also influence outbreaks of rosacea. Here are the main ones:

  • Large changes in temperature and exposure to intense weather conditions such as very low temperatures, cold winds, sun, humidity, etc.
  • Consumption of alcohol and very spicy food.
  • Using creams, washing powders, detergents, fragrances and other substances that may contain allergens and irritating chemical compounds.
  • Psychological factors such as stress, anger, sensitivity, embarrassment, shame.

Rosacea and your diet - recommended and prohibited foods

Rosacea occurs as a consequence of both internal and external factors. In addition to genetic predisposition, skin type and environmental influences, diet also affects its incidence and condition. We stress the importance of healthy, wholesome diet for all skin conditions – rosacea is no different. We have prepared 2 food lists for you. The first one is a list of recommended foods that will support you in your fight against this inflammatory disease, whereas the second one contains foods you should avoid if you have problems with rosacea.

  1. A diet that helps with rosacea

As we wrote at the beginning, rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease, which is why foods that calm the inflammatory processes in your body will help you manage outbreaks. One of the more well-known diets that soothes inflammation and has an overall positive effect on our health is the so-called Mediterranean diet. As the name suggests, this is a diet that consists of food typical of the Mediterranean region. Your menu should contain a lot of:

  • tomatoes,
  • olive oil,
  • dark green leafy vegetables,
  • nuts,
  • fish and fruit.
  1. Food to avoid

Can you guess what is the common property of foods that speed up rosacea outbreaks? The answer is that they all promote inflammatory processes in the body - alcohol, white bread, fried food, white pasta and margarine all do that, among others. In addition to foods that aggravate inflammation, you should also avoid chocolate and cinnamon, poultry, tuna and other foods rich in niacin. Be mindful not to over-season your food too.

What should the rosacea cream be like?

In the previous sections, we explained the causes and risk factors for the appearance of rosacea. Besides the various changes you can make to your daily life, the right skin care can also help you cope with and alleviate its symptoms. So, what should the cream be like?

As we have mentioned several times, rosacea is an inflammatory skin disease, which means that the anti-inflammatory effect of a cream is the main criterion when choosing the right one; however, you should pay attention to its nourishing and calming effects too. Outbreaks of rosacea can also be aggravated by the use of various fabric softeners, fragrances and other substances containing potentially irritating chemical compounds, which is why it’s important that the cream you use does not contain any irritating substances such as perfumes, preservatives and similar.

Hemp-based Nurturing Face Cream – an important step in limiting rosacea outbreaks

We have designed the Nurturing Face Cream with the most sensitive facial skin in mind. It combines a therapeutic and nourishing effect, which is probably the reason why it has so many regular users, a large portion of whom suffer from outbreaks of rosacea. We are inspired by the many positive stories from our customers, so we would like to share the reasons why our Nurturing Face Cream is the perfect choice for anyone suffering from this condition.

  1. The anti-inflammatory effect of CBD oil: We keep stressing the inflammatory origin of rosacea. Just as you will influence the outbreaks with the proper (anti-inflammatory) diet, direct anti-inflammatory activity on the skin - on the areas affected by the flare-up - will, of course, also help. CBD has a proven anti-inflammatory effect and is naturally derived, gentle and kind to sensitive skin.
  2. Hempseed oil is rich in omega fatty acids. If you research rosacea in more detail, you will soon come across the beneficial effect of Omega-3 fatty acids on this inflammatory skin disease. They will help if consumed through your regular diet or directly as a treatment for the affected areas.
  3. An all-natural cream that does not contain any irritants that could futher aggravate the affected areas.
