7 tips for winter skincare

The seasons are slowly changing and before you know it, we’re just a step away from winter. The most magical time of the year for some, yet a nuisance for others who shudder at the mere thought of low temperatures, snow and short days and can’t wait for it to be over. Either way, winter offers plenty of great opportunities for outdoor activities - we just need to dress and equip ourselves appropriately to keep the cold at bay.

Warm clothing effectively protects us from wind, moisture and cold, but the one part of our body that’s directly exposed to the elements despite it is our face, which needs extra care and protection to keep the skin in balance.

However, we should not overlook the rest of our body that’s hiding under layers of warm clothing either, because it has to adapt daily to heated rooms which dry out the skin and trigger various skin problems and discomforts.

We’ve put together some simple tips to help you keep your skin balanced for as long as possible even during winter:

  1. Extra gentle cleansing

Gentle cleansing is always welcome, but especially important during winter, when a healthy acid mantle is crucial to maintain the skin’s balance.   1. Remove dead skin cells

Dead skin cells accumulate on the epidermis and block the path of skincare products, and, on top of that, they can make the skin look dull and tired. Exfoliation is recommended once or at most twice a week. It aims to remove dead skin cells, stimulate skin renewal and increase the effect of your care routine. It can instantly revitalise your skin and make it look healthier and more youthful. Special attention should be paid to the choice of the appropriate exfoliant, which should not be too rough, as that can cause skin damage and reactions. The intensity of the exfoliant should, of course, be adapted to the skin area; the skin on the face is very thin and delicate, which calls for a gentle scrub, whereas the skin on the rest of the body is a little thicker, so sugar crystal-based scrubs can also be used.

  1. Ensure appropriate moisturising care

Moisture is essential during all seasons and winter is no exception.
