Why is CBD oil effective for acne and psoriasis?

The use of cannabis in treating skin problems has gained a lot of attention in scientific circles in the past few years, most prominent being CBD cannabinoid, an active ingredient of industrial hemp, found in cannabis resin. It boasts a number of positive effects on the skin and is effective in battling problems with acne, oily and flaky skin, as well as dermatitis.

Scientific interest is mainly focused on the active ingredient CBD cannabinoid that can be found in cannabis resin and has a number of positive effects on the skin. It is effective in treating problems with acne and oily skin but also calms autoimmune reactions inside the body and on the skin.

The endocannabinoid system in our bodies regulates a variety of physiological processes in the body, including the growth of skin cells and their diversity.

Acne and psoriasis share a common problem - rapid cell proliferation

Acne is caused by excessive production of sebum (tallow secreted by sebaceous glands), inflammation and rapid (sebocytes) cell proliferation of cells that compose the sebaceous glands and secrete sebum. Scaly skin or psoriasis is also due to rapid cell proliferation, in this case, keratinocytes that produce the keratin protein.

Why is CBD oil so effective in treating acne?

It could be said that our skin has a complex relationship with sebum, the tallow secreted by the sebaceous glands. If the sebaceous glands do not secrete enough of it, we are faced with dry and inelastic skin. Too much of it will usually result in problems with acne. While various factors can cause excessive sebum secretion, hormonal changes, stress and improper diet are listed among the most important ones. When sebaceous glands secrete too much sebum, it begins to load into the neck of the (hair) follicle. The follicle becomes clogged and creates the ideal environment for bacterial growth, resulting in acne, blackheads and other skin impurities.
The Hungarian Institute of Physiology conducted a series of studies on cells derived from human sebaceous glands, which show that the sebaceous glands have their own endocannabinoid receptors. These are part of the endocannabinoid system, which plays a decisive role in the production of tallow, or sebum.

One Clinical study has shown that the molecule CBD reduces lipogenesis of sebocytes or the formation of tallow in the sebaceous glands. The cannabinoids that were applied to the cells of the skin glands in the studies, activated receptor cell membranes (called TRPV4) and successfully disrupted the pro-lipogenic path. This, in turn, prompted the reduction of protein in the core receptor (NRIP1), which affects the metabolism of glucose and lipids. With the help of CBD, it successfully inhibited lipogenesis of sebocytes or the formation of tallow in sebaceous glands. CBD also demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties.

CBD oil is also effective in treating psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, for which the exact cause is not yet known. Patches of reddened and inflamed skin called plaques that are covered in silvery-white scales form on the skin. The burden of psoriasis can also be a mental one, with patients feeling ashamed of the changes taking place on their faces and hands because of the disease.
The scientific research in recent years has brought on a new sense of hope by confirming the positive effects of using cannabinoids found in cannabis resin, particularly CBD, in the treatment of psoriasis.

Cannabinoids found in industrial hemp have an anti-inflammatory effect and inhibit the growth of keratinocytes, cells that renew the epidermis by producing new cells. With psoriasis, the growth of keratinocytes in the epidermis of the skin is accelerated, a process which cannabinoids can normalize. This results in a reduction of scaly skin.
